From the SMS era to now

The right words for the moment you're actually in.

SMS4buddy started as a place to collect and share SMS. The phones changed and so did we: today it's a library of messages for specific occasions and situations, in English and Hindi, plus free tools that help you finish the message.

2,300+Messages, picked to be worth sending
23Occasions covered, and growing
21Free text tools
2Languages: English and Hindi
How we work

Six principles, in plain English.

Picked, not piled up.

Every message on SMS4buddy is picked because it's worth sending, and the rest are left out. No keyword-stuffed filler, and no list padded to hit a number.

The moment, not just the occasion.

"Birthday" is a starting point. A birthday for a mum, for a boss, at midnight, when you forgot, when it's your first one apart: those are different messages, so they get different pages.

Two languages, properly.

English and Hindi, with proper Devanagari. Hinglish where it's how people actually text. We write in Hindi rather than translating from English.

Copy in one tap.

No popups, no "share to unlock", no sign-up wall. You came for a message; you should leave with one.

Tools that finish the job.

Sometimes the words are right and the format isn't. The font generators, the SMS counter and the quote maker exist for that last step.

Free, and kept that way politely.

The site is free and will be paid for with ads. They'll never sit on top of the message you came to read.

The story

Where this started.

SMS4buddy began in the SMS era, as a big shared collection of messages. Texts were how people wished each other, joked, apologised and said good night, and a good one got forwarded round a whole class or office. A community grew around the site, reading and sharing what was there.

Then the way people message changed. Most quick messages now go over WhatsApp, Instagram and other social apps. SMS and iMessage still have their place, but the bigger change is what people are looking for: less often a random forward, more often the right words for one particular moment.

So SMS4buddy changed with it. Instead of one long list per occasion, messages are sorted by who they're for, how they should sound, and the situation you're actually in. We also map out the situations you might not think of, like the belated wish, the one for the colleague you barely know, or the message to send weeks after a funeral, and give each one words that fit.

Alongside the library there are free tools that help you finish the message: fancy fonts for a bio, a character counter for an SMS, a quote maker that turns a wish into an image, and a few calculators for birthdays and anniversaries. Use a message as it is, or take it as a start and make it your own.
