What should I write to my husband on our anniversary?
Something about the marriage you actually have, not marriage in general. "You're my everything" is sweet, but he has heard it. "Thank you for the lock you check twice every night" is the one he'll remember, because it tells him you've noticed the small, unglamorous things he does to look after you. An anniversary is the one day a year it's normal to say those out loud.
Pick a line here that sounds like you, then add one detail from this year: the move, the new job, the illness you got through, the trip that went wrong in a funny way. That turns a wish anyone could send into one only you could.
Should an anniversary message be romantic or funny?
Whichever sounds like the two of you, and often both. Plenty of husbands squirm at a long romantic paragraph read in front of them, but will keep the card for years.
