What do you write in a first birthday card?

So the best first birthday messages do two things: they wish the baby well in a sentence, and they say something kind about the year the family has just had. "You've done an incredible job this year" lands better than another line about how big the baby has grown.
What do parents write to their own baby?
A letter, if you want one, or a caption, if you don't. A first birthday is one of the few times parents write to a child who will read it later, so say the specific things: how the year felt, what the baby did that made you laugh, what you hope for. In twenty years, your child will be moved far more by one real detail, like the way they looked at the candle, than by a general line about love.
What do grandparents say?

What should I use as a caption for a first birthday post?
A short line that sounds like the family: "I'm one! Now where's the cake?" in the baby's voice is the classic, and "Our little one is one" says it plainly. If you're sharing photos of your child, think about who can see them: you may want to keep the account private and leave out the baby's full name and location. That's a choice for the family, not a rule.
What about twins?
Write to them as two people, not one unit. "Two tiny people, one very big love" does that, and the Twins filter has three more. If you're a parent, one line each in a keepsake card, such as what each of them did this year, means more than "our twins" repeated.

"पहले जन्मदिन की ढेर सारी शुभकामनाएँ" is the standard, and it's warm for a card to the parents. Blessings are part of how many families say it: "भगवान तुम्हें लंबी उम्र और अच्छी सेहत दें". In Hinglish, "Pehla birthday mubarak" is how most people write it on WhatsApp. These lines avoid saying baby boy or baby girl, so they work for either.
What do I write on a gift tag?
Two lines at most. "Happy first birthday! With love from [name]" is enough. If it's a book or a toy, one line on why you chose it is a nice touch. Leave out comparisons with other children, and anything about size or milestones. Parents have had plenty of those.
